VANCOUVER, BC -- Craven, Saskatchewan, native Kendra Schaaf, who attends the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, headlines the women’s 5000-meters field at the UBC Pre-Jerome Meet next Thursday, June 30.

Schaaf is coming off a personal best time of 15:52.33 in the 5000-meters, set at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. She finished ninth overall in that race, earning Second Team All-America honors. With two more outdoor track seasons remaining, her future looks bright.

The Tarheel will start her senior cross country season next fall, looking for her first NCAA cross country title, after finishing 11th in 2010, 2nd in 2009, and 12th in 2008. Schaaf has a strong record competing on her home soil, having claimed the senior title at the Canadian National Cross Country Championships in 2009, and the junior title in 2007 and 2008.

Representing Canada internationally, she placed 20th at the 2008 World Junior Cross Country Championships in Scotland in 2008, 7th in the 5000-meters, and 13th in the 1500-meters at the World Junior Track and Field Championships in 2008, and first at the NACAC Junior Cross Country Championships in 2008.

Other confirmed entries for the women’s 5000-meters include Asher Kyger Henry (16:40), Jodi Souter (17:11), and Shannon Thompson (18:10).
